2014 was the year the Casa de Campo resort celebrated it’s 40th anniversary, so as we welcome the start of 2015, here we bring you all our favorite memories from 2014!
Here in Casa de Campo, the saying “give and you will receive” rings true each and every time we give to one of the many charitable causes supported by the greater Casa de Campo community. On Saturday the 18th of January 2014, as we celebrated the annual Magical Splendor for Life fundraising weekend, giving never felt so good.
In January 2014, architect Gianfranco Fini, hosted a fabulous dinner party for family and friends at his gorgeous Casa de Campo villa in Vistamar.
With more than 50 guests, including many jovial Italians of the Casa de Campo community, Gianfranco Fini hosted the dinner in honor of his good friends Sergio and Corrine Gobbi.
The Carnaval Dominicano, or the Dominican Carnival is the embodiment of what it is to be Dominican, it is the biggest and best celebration of the Dominican Republic’s rich culture and history, and it is incredible to watch. On Saturday the 22nd of February 2014, the Marina Casa de Campo hosted their annual Carnaval de la Marina and the chic streets came to life with all the excitement, vibrant colors, drums, music and festive ambiance synonymous with the Dominican Carnival season as experienced in La Romana, Santo Domingo or La Vega.
Last week, Beyonce and Jay Z with their daughter Blue Ivy were in Casa de Campo on vacation… and despite keeping it low-key, the world-famous couple were spotted out and about enjoying the resort.
They arrived to the La Romana – Casa de Campo International airport in their private jet, and were whisked directly to Punta Minitas #34, one of Casa de Campo’s most impressive oceanside estates, and one that has hosted numerous other celebrities such as the Kardashians, Rihanna and Drake, as well as the occasional visiting royalty.
Saturday the 8th of February 2014 was a night of stars, of the INMORTALES of latin baseball. No Latin American baseball event has ever brought together such a legion of baseball greats of yesterday and today, as did the Grand Induction Ceremony of Latino Baseball Hall of Fame. This major event held at Altos de Chavón amphitheater, was legendary. Every detail shone; the outstanding production quality, the scenery simulating a baseball field and some of the greatest heroes of Latin American baseball, Roberto Alomar, David Ortiz and Robinson Canó, to name but a few.
“Giving opportunities, giving hope, giving love, giving knowledge, giving health” said Merrilee Gagnon when asked what the HOGAR means to her. And as many of the several hundred guests of the Hogar del Niño dinner-dance party celebrated on Saturday February 15th gave similar responses, it is clear that “giving” is the key.
On Saturday February 22nd, a wonderful celebration was held at the Casa de Campo villa of Xiomara and Ramon “Papo” Menendez, and with a grand sum of US$1,190,000 raised for the Hogar del Niño there was certainly an incredible reason to celebrate!
Well wasn’t it spiffing?! The British Bash by CasaLife magazine celebrated on Thursday February 27th at The Club Lounge in Altos de Chavon was just the bees knees! A little pre-party in honor of Elton John, the king of British pop, the British Bash was sponsored by SILGON modern media company, The Club and the Hard Rock Casino in Punta Cana, as well as Bulldog gin and Chivas 18 whiskey – after all how could we celebrate in true British style without our favorite tipples!
Thursday, February 27, marked an event that in many ways was as revolutionary as the Independence Day celebration it shared. The Gallery at Altos de Chavón was chock-a-block with work by students, graduates, and faculty of The Altos de Chavón School of Design, and by Chavón Artists in Residence.
The beautiful John Walker Voyager docked in the Marina Casa de Campo, and during it’s stay hosted a number of glamorous and exclusive gatherings for Casa de Campo and Santo Domingo VIPs.
“38 years ago we had shovels here as well, and that might have been the last time we had shovels here.. and it was when another very forward thinking and visionary chairman decided to start the construction of Altos de Chavón,” were the opening words of Dominique Bluhdorn, president of the Altos de Chavón Cultural Foundation at the recent groundbreaking ceremony for the Davidoff Art Initiative in Altos de Chavón.
Last Friday the 28th of March, VANTA windows and doors specialists invited the Casa de Campo community, as well as a number of VIP guests to a magical sunset cocktail party at the end of the Paseo del Mar in the Marina Casa de Campo.
On Thursday March 6th, CasaLife magazine and Chivas Regal 18 hosted an exquisite pairing dinner at La Morela in the Marina Casa de Campo. The evenings hosts Roselyn O’Neil, Chivas Regal Brand Manager in the Dominican Republic, Philip Silvestri, president and founder of SILGON creators of CasaLife and Giovanni Martinez, Américas Chivas Regal Ambassador welcomed VIP guests of our diverse Casa de Campo community.
Fun-loving Casa de Campo villa owner Lelli Asch Palomba recently hosted a marvellous Grecian themed party party at her villa in Casa de Campo. The party was organised in honor of her dear friend Alberto Peretti, former director of Vogue Italia who was in Casa de Campo on vacation, and who now lives in Greece. The celebration united more than 50 Greek gods and goddesses of the Casa de Campo community.
On Sunday the 16th of March 2014, the 9th annual McDaniel Teaching Pros Tennis Tournament came to a very exciting close at the La Romana Country Club, as Francisco Concepción and Pedro Nolasco went head to head in the finals, just like in previous years…
It is every girl’s dream to be a princess, a dream which on Sunday March 23rd 2014 became my reality. Like the royals of days gone by, a grand trumpet roll announced the arrival of Philip and I, the future Mr. and Mrs. Silvestri, and at that moment I couldn’t have felt more like a fairy tale princess.

On Saturday April 19th 2014, the 10th annual Casa de Campo Copa Semana Santa polo tournament presented by CasaLife magazine came to a majestic close with victories for the Azimut and Chamuscada teams.
