Matos_Fisher_Montás_Magee_ALSOn Wednesday November 5th, coincidentally Guy Fawkes Day, the British Ambassador to the Dominican Republic, Mr. Steven Fisher, paid a visit to the Abraham Lincoln School in La Romana.  Montás_Fisher_ALSHe was accompanied by Larissa Montás, Head of Administration of the British Embassy. An alumni of the Abraham Lincoln School, Larissa was the valedictorian student of the class 1991 and was delighted to be able to accompany the Ambassador to visit her old Alma Mater. The Ambassador was received at the school by Dr. Leo Matos, the Chairman of the School Board, and Mr. Harry Magee, the Headmaster. After a tour of all the school’s facilities, Mr. Fisher spoke to the students in grades 9-12 about British Universities, the work of the embassy in the Dominican Republic and about life in general in the UK. Larissa Montás also spoke to the students about how the wonderful education she had received at the Abraham Lincoln School (ALS) always stood her in good stead throughout her life and how grateful she was to ALS for this. Mr. Magee thanked Mr. Fisher for his enlightening talk and expressed how proud he was of the achievements of his former student, Larissa. Steven_Fisher_Allison_ALS Mr. Fisher said he was both surprised and very impressed to find in La Romana a school with 25 well qualified British teachers from all parts of the UK, teaching a totally British curriculum. He was also impressed with the good manners, courteousness and wonderful English accents of the many students he met.
