Sir Elton John, thank you. The concert on Friday evening (February 28th, 2014) was outstanding. You are a legend, you brought tears of joys to my eyes, it was a truly magical experience and one I will never forget.
And although as a Brit, who ranks Elton John as my all-time favorite artist (tied with Meatloaf), I may be a little biased, there can be no denying that the Elton John concert was legendary, and certainly one of the best ever seen in Altos de Chavón’s 31 year history.
The Altos de Chavón amphitheater was officially inaugurated on August 20th 1982 in the Concert for Las Americas with Frank Sinatra, a concert which has been remembered as the best, and now more than 30 years later, Elton John brought that same magic back to the rocks of Altos de Chavón.
He opened to a standing ovation and a roaring applause as he strolled out from back stage sporting blue tinted glasses and a blue glitter suit.
He blew the crowd away with his timeless hits such as Tiny Dancer, Benny and the Jets, Candle in the Wind, I’m Still Standing and Yellow Brick Road, among many others.
He played straight for 2 hours and 30 minutes not stopping once for a break, every inch the professional performer known and loved the world over.
He kept going. As the concert progressed so did the energy of the music, Sir Elton and the crowd. At one point he put one foot up on the piano and clapped along with crowd of more than 5,000 ecstatic fans.

And as the first notes of Can You Feel The Love Tonight, perhaps Sir Elton John’s most world famous hit, rang out, the excitement crescendoed into a frenzy, the entire amphitheater singing along and embracing the magic of a star who has not faded with age. A star whose brilliance shines as brightly now as it did 40 years ago.
What a great privilege to have experienced such an amazing performer in undeniably one of the world’s most remarkable venues.
Elton John made history on Friday night, he now stands alongside Frank Sinatra, Sting and Santana, as one of the greatest to have ever sung on the magical cobbles of Altos de Chavón.
Elton John you made me proud to be British – we might not be able to cook – but we do make great musicians!
