UPDATE: The information in this article is no longer correct. Tropical Storm Isaac has now passed by the Dominican Republic. Here in Casa de Campo, sports facilities, services and restaurants are reopened with the exception of the Teeth of the Dog golf course – which is currently being clear-up as it was damaged by the […]

Tropical Depression #7 becomes Tropical Wave and is already nearly gone
Great news my friends! In case you haven’t already noticed, Tropical Depression #7, originally predicted to become Tropical Storm Gordon with a projected path for the Dominican Republic, dissipated into nothing more sinister than a “Tropical Wave” on Saturday morning (August 11th) and is now passing by to the South of the Dominican Republic.
Weather update: A lovely Tropical Wave brings more rain!
In yesterday afternoon’s “weather update” I spotted something unpleasant lurking on the satellite image, which although completely ignored by all my favorite weather websites, I predicted it would bring us (in the Dominican Republic) rain – and I was right, it is indeed raining! So what’s going on? And what can we expect over the […]
More rain? Yes I’m afraid so…..
Whilst I do not like to be the bearer of bad news, I do really like talking about the weather (even if it is bad) – it’s a British thing, and so when I was casually perusing my favorite websites (weather.com/hurricanecentral and wunderground.com) just now and I noticed some rather ominous satellite imagery of the […]
Grey grumbling skys….a Tropical Wave and a Tropical Cyclone
Well well well, following an unexpectedly hot and sunny month of July, it would seem that the rainy “Hurricane Season” has now arrived to the Dominican Republic – in the form of a Tropical Wave which is now hovering over us with a “low pressure system”, predicted to become a Tropical Cyclone (most likely a […]
Hurricane Season starts today – Friday June 1st
Today Friday June the 1st marks the start of “Hurricane Season”, which despite what some people think does not mean that it will rain constantly for the next 6 months, rather that when it does rain will in general be a little more fuerte (strong) than at other times of the year and it is of […]
Hurricane Season 2012 starts June 1st and is predicted to be “less active” than usual!
UPDATE (August 31st, 2012): Now that a total of 12 named storms have already formed and August has been one of the most active months since records began – it has turned out that the “less-active” prediction was undoubtedly very wrong. Hurricane Season 2012 is now set to become “more active” than usual. Click here […]
Forget Ophelia – she’s going NORTH!
So far this Hurricane Season, the Dominican Republic has been very lucky – every Tropical Storm and Hurricane which looked to be heading our way have gone North of the island. And now it looks like Tropical Storm Ophelia is predicted to go the same way! Wooohooo!
Tropical Storm Maria heading NORTH….but at 600 miles wide her tail will whip the DR!
Have you had enough of the rain? Me too! Unfortunately, it seems our prayers to the rain gods have been left un-answered – with Tropical Storm Maria expected to head North, it should be time to sunbathe again, but given that Tropical Storm Maria is now more than 600 miles wide (or long rather)…..she may […]
What! More rain? And Tropical Storm Maria is now predicted to become a Hurricane (again)
With so many hurricanes (Hurricane Katia, Hurricane Nate and Tropical Storm Maria) floating around in our part of the world – it’s no wonder the weather in Casa de Campo La Romana has been a little “disturbed.” So what can we expect for the next few days and more importantly will this wild weather ruin […]
Tropical Storm Maria develops – no longer predicted to become a hurricane! phew!
For all you fellow weather-watching fanatics (at this time of year if you live in Casa de Campo or the Dominican Republic – you should be!), I bring you good news! Tropical Depression 14 has now developed into Tropical Storm Maria as predicted, but she is no longer predicted to become a hurricane at all! […]
