Whilst I do not like to be the bearer of bad news, I do really like talking about the weather (even if it is bad) – it’s a British thing, and so when I was casually perusing my favorite websites (weather.com/hurricanecentral and wunderground.com) just now and I noticed some rather ominous satellite imagery of the Dominican Republic (and the Caribbean) I felt it was my duty to share it with you!
So here’s the situation:
1. Bad weather today
As you may have probably figured out for yourselves (from the grey skies and the ominious rumbling of thunder), it looks like it’s going to rain this afternoon – that is if it’s not already raining by the time you read this!
2. More bad (rainy) weather on the way
Don’t panic – it’s not a Tropical Depression, Tropical Storm or Hurricane, but as far as I can tell from the satellite image (see above) there is what appears to be a SOMETHING not at all pleasant-looking heading our way from the South West. There is also something rather nasty-looking hovering over Puerto Rico right now – which according to Onamet.gov.do (the official Dominican weather website) is expected to head our way tomorrow.
Fortunately, these lurking weather systems have not been identified, labelled or in fact mentioned in any way on my favorite weather websites, so apart from (probably) rather a lot of rain and some stormy weather I guess (due to everyone’s lack of interest) – there is not too much to worry about! (Of course if that changes I will be the first to let you know!)
And lurking in the Atlantic Ocean….
During Hurricane season, areas of low pressure coming off of the West coast of Africa, typically travel East across the Atlantic ocean, during which time depending upon atmospheric conditions (which I don’t really understand) they may (or may not) gather energy from the ocean and “get organized” into a Tropical Cyclone.
The below image shows 2 low pressure areas which could cause us some trouble….we’ll just have to keep an eye on them.

DISCLAIMER!
I am NOT a weather expert (at all), so if my weather predictions (based on googling and common sense) turn out to be incorrect – sorry!
