“A negative memory, of embarrassment, of pain”, is how José Antonio Rodríguez, Minister of Culture, describes La Fortaleza jail, the building which once stood where today the Aldea Cultural Santa Rosa de Lima is open.
In February of 2013, the first steps were taken to transform the old “La Fortaleza” prison on the banks of the Salao river in La Romana into a cultural center, the Aldea Cultural Santa Rosa de Lima. Today, this dream is finally coming true.
During the Casa de Campo high season, Dominican Minister of Culture José Antonio Rodríguez, not only joined us in Casa de Campo for a few of the celebrations, but also for a visit and private tour of “La Fortaleza”, which will be opening as a new cultural village later this year.
The Dominican Ministry of Culture recently approved 5 new cultural projects for the greater La Romana region, in the Eastern of the Dominican Republic. Implementation of these initiatives should start form January 2014 – that’s right around the corner, so lets take a look at what we can look forward to!
Since taking up the post of Minister of Culture in the Dominican Republic, La Romana local, José Antonio Rodríguez, has already launched, sponsored and supported many excellent initiatives across the country – and next he invites you to the Festival de Primavera in Altos de Chavón from the 23rd to the 26th of May.
Last Saturday September the 15th of 2012, Luisa María Ortiz Guzmán, with the collaboration of the Central Romana Corp., and Casa de Campo, organized a meeting between the Minister of Culture, Jose Antonio Rodriguez and the many representatives of both private and public sectors of La Romana at the “Club Recreativo Romana”.
This Friday the 25th of November, the ‘Rose’ disco in La Romana will be celebrating “Noches Sabineras”, a fun-filled charity music concert in aid the the Rehabilitation Center in La Romana.
On Wednesday December the 1st, famous Dominican singer Jose Antonio Rodriguez will be performing at the ‘Flamboyán’ Conference Centre in Casa de Campo, as part of a ‘Cena-Show’ to raise money for the ‘Centro Rehabilitación’ in La Romana.
