Last Saturday September the 15th of 2012, Luisa María Ortiz Guzmán, with the collaboration of the Central Romana Corp., and Casa de Campo, organized a meeting between the Minister of Culture, Jose Antonio Rodriguez and the many representatives of both private and public sectors of La Romana at the “Club Recreativo Romana”.

Jose Antonio Rodriguez, a well known Dominican artist and songwriter, originally from La Romana, who was recently named Minister of Culture of the Dominican Republic – took this meeting as an opportunity to listen to the community’s concerns, as well to present his future plans as Minister.

The event which was a feast of cultural and artistic expressions with an exhibit presented by artists and artisans who live in La Romana, also included a marvelous presentation by talented young boys and girls (Ana Herrera, Junior Herrera, Génesis Ruíz and Héctor Puello), the finalists of the 1st Children’s Voice Festival aired on local La Romana TV and organized by the Provincial Department of Culture in La Romana.

During the closing ceremony, Jose Antonio Rodriguez was presented with a plaque in his honor by 4 young representatives of the La Romana community, whilst a VIP audience consisting of local Governor Dr. Juan José Santana Medrano, representatives from Casa de Campo, Central Romana, the Altos de Chavón Cultural Foundation, the La Romana Bayahibe Tourism Cluster, the La Romana Bayahibe Hotels Association, the Dominican and American Chambers of Commerce, the Clínica de Familia/Columbia University, the Colegio Dominicano de Artistas Plásticos, among many others, applauded in appreciation and welcome to the new minister.
