With so many amazing restaurants and sinful cocktails to choose from it’s easy to over-indulge when you’re in Casa de Campo.
Whether you had a big dinner that’s causing some digestive upset or a whole week of too much of everything you don’t have to throw in the towel on your plans for healthy eating. The worst thing you can do is try to un-do your wrongs by skimping on calories the next day- it will only set you up for hunger and failure. Instead, start the next day with fresh resolve and try these simple tricks to get you back on track.
Lemon and spice
Start your day with warm lemon water and a dash of cayenne pepper. Lemon is a natural detoxifier, which stimulates the liver to rid itself of toxins. Cayenne pepper stimulates the circulatory system, helps digestion and regulates blood sugar. Have this first thing in the morning for a burst of energy and to help keep cravings at bay.
Focus on protein
This may sound counterintuitive but making protein a part of every meal will help regulate blood sugar, preventing crashes and the need for a quick pick me up. A vegetable omelet or fruit smoothie with protein powder is both a great way to start the day. Choose lean proteins such as baked chicken or steamed fish for the rest of the day.
Avoid dairy
Dairy is a hidden culprit of dietary distress such as gas and bloating and can also create mucus in the body. To get back on track and get rid of the heavy ‘overindulged’ feeling avoid milk, yogurt and all cheese.
Eat cleansing fruits and vegetables
Some fruits and vegetables naturally have more cleansing properties, some great ones to include are: pineapple, carrots, beets, apples, celery and cucumbers. You can eat them as part of any meal, a snack or even throw them into a juicer or blender for an afternoon smoothie.
Drink plenty of water
Avoid any carbonated beverages and stick to a bare minimum of caffeinated beverages. The more water you drink the quicker your body will flush out the toxins and get rid of that bloated feeling.
Sweat it out
Head to the spa and indulge in the steam room or run to the tennis courts to burn off some calories. Exercise will help you burn off some of those extra calories while sweating will help you release some more toxins, helping you feel better faster.
Take a B12
If you had too much to drink chances are dehydration and lost nutrients are what’s keeping your hangover around. Vitamin B12 is great for getting your brain and body some much needed energy. Take one before bed and one as soon as you wake up.
