In the lead up to the Fundación MIR’s Magical Splendor Gala wherein guest of honor for the evening, Naeem Khan presented his latest ready-to-wear collection, the revered fashion designer first visited the Fundación MIR’s schools. Located in La Romana, the non-profit organization which was founded in 1988 has helped improve the lives of a growing number of children and families through its educational services and programs. In 2015 alone it impacted the lives of over 2,000 families, continuously providing the La Romana community with a school for girls, school for boys, elementary school, dental program, and an international standard of education through a collaboration with Florida International University (FIU).
Naeem Khan along with his wife Ranjana, and Raysa Fanjul, were greeted on Friday, January 13th by the school’s students in the multi-purpose room. There, students of all ages presented him with handmade cards, sang songs, and performed skits. It was a collaborative effort among all to give Mr. Khan such a warm welcome to the country. This is his second year visiting the Dominican Republic and presenting his fashion line at the Magical Splendor Gala, having first done so in 2016. The designer expressed how happy he was and thankful for such a beautiful presentation by the students. He also praised the work of the Fundación MIR for its wonderful contributions to the community.
Mr. Khan told CasaLife magazine that charity is a big part of his existence from growing up in India. Last year, he donated four dresses in an auction to Casa de Campo ladies following the fashion show, which amounted to nearly $50,000 dollars for the MIR charities! This year, the figure is even more remarkable.
The Fundación MIR is a cause very close to the designer’s heart, evident by the look on his face as he posed for photos with the students and passed out gifts of stuffed animals, inflatable balls, and toys to all the children. The smiles on their faces throughout his visit will melt your heart.
Stay tuned for our coverage of the designer’s S/S 2017 fashion show at Casa Grande which took place the following day. The following photos were taken by Alejandro Heredia on Friday, January 13th:
