Early in August a group of teachers from FIU (Florida International University) made a visit to La Romana with the aim of imparting some of their knowledge of education to the faculty and administrative staff working in the three schools of the Fundación MIR.
This marked the fifth consecutive occasion this group of volunteers shared their experiences with the Fundación MIR, and some of the topics which were addressed during the training week were “Leadership” and “How to build a good team.”
Fundación MIR understands the importance of having qualified teachers for the benefit of the students who attend their schools, and thanks to the teachers of FIU all that now remains is to put into practice what has been learnt in order to continue offering the precious gift of education and in turn, a better future for the children of the greater La Romana area.
The Fundación MIR is a non-profit organization which works to provide education to the children of the greater La Romana area, who are most in need. They run 3 schools; the MIR Esperanza (boys vocational school), the Escuela Técnica Vocacional Fundación MIR (girls vocational school) and the Primaria MIR (infants school).
