I love Italian food! I really do… maybe I was Italian in another life, but I know how to distinguish authentic from not-so-authentic Italian food. That’s why I love going to Restaurante da Lucas in La Romana – I like to think of it as the “not so well kept secret” in town. I have raved about the owner, Lisa’s, a-mazing cannolis before and her pizzas (best in town – hands down). While we just let you know about their new weekly specials which are practically a steal, Lisa is cooking up a storm for Mother’s Day this Sunday and I’m about to tell you why you absolutely must bring your mom or wife to Lucas that day!
In our Mother’s Day special article published today, I let you know why my mommy is the bestest mommy ever! Well, on Sunday, she’s coming to visit me from Puerto Rico and although we celebrated US Mother’s Day recently, she deserves to celebrate Dominican Mother’s Day too and I know exactly where I’m taking her… TO LUCAS!
Lisa has been working tirelessly on the menu for Sunday and having already done a special tasting for them last weekend, I can attest to the fact that these recipes are some of Lisa’s best yet! Here’s the Mother’s Day menu and my testing notes!
Starter
Fruit Cocktail
and
Celery Soufflé with Gorgonzola Cream Sauce
(So delicate and so delish. I actually had 2 because they were that good – no shame)
Main Course
Eggplant Lasagna with Scamorza Cheese
Burrata Beetroot Ravioli with olive and sundried tomato pateé
(Are these not the cutest raviolis you have ever seen? And they taste that good too!)
Or
Green Tagliatelle with Fresh Mushroom Sauce and Rucula
(This is what I am ordering on Sunday because I just loved the freshness of the pasta and rustic mushroom sauce)
Dessert
Heart Shaped Puff Pastry with strawberry and chocolate
(This hit the sweet spot without being overly sweet. No one does pasty like Lisa!)
So guess how much you pay for this 3 course meal. Just RD$900 per person!!! (Did your jaw drop?!) Not only is this a great meal, it’s super affordable as well. Given that we are sure the place will be packed and at Lisa’s request, call ahead of time to reserve your table. If you want to order off of the regular menu, you are more than welcome to do so (Order the new thick crust pizza which is to die for!).
This is an excellent brunch or lunch menu so don’t be afraid of the afternoon heat. While everyone always loves to sit under the beautiful tree at Luca’s outdoors patio, the indoor dining area is super comfortable and air conditioned. My mom is arriving in the afternoon, so we are going to dinner at Luca’s and I hope to see you all showering your own mothers with love there!
