Lionfish

This Sunday the 20th of October is the 2nd annual Lionfish tournament in Bayahibe, an activity organized to reduce the number of Lionfish in the waters of the La Romana – Bayahibe area, while also raising awareness of the danger this species represents to marine life. And as part of this event, a Lionfish feast is being organized!

Participation in the actual Lionfish tournament requires a certain level of fishing or diving know-how, however for those who want to get involved and support this activity – the Lionfish feast is for you! Everyone can eat and enjoy the Lionfish, and while these beasts are terrible for the local marine environment, they are delicious to eat and can be prepared in a number of yummy ways!

Taking part in the Lionfish feast are two local Bayahibe restaurants; El Cafecito de la Cubana and also the Saona Café, where we recently enjoyed the Beach Party hosted by Casa Wine Shop – so 2 excellent places!

The special Lionfish feast menus (see below) at both of these restaurants will be available this Friday the 18th of October, Saturday the 19th and Sunday the 20th for lunch and dinner. The price per person is RD$2,000 and that includes a drink, as well as 3 courses, and best of all – all profits will go to FUNDEMAR, an organisation dedicated to the preservation of the marine ecosystem in the local area.

We hope you’ll join us in this quest to save our coral reefs from the invasion of Lionfish!
