Yoga is regarded as one of the most effective methods of establishing a connection between the body and mind by Indian sages since time immemorial. It is a type of exercise that is performed through diet, breathing and physical posture for the relaxation of body and mind. This year Casa de Campo Resort joined the commemoration of the International Day of Yoga on June 21st, with a yoga activity lead by the experts Kira Montagu, Martina Monteverde, Jackie Arvelo and Luisa Poppe who explained all about the virtues and benefits that yoga offers. 

Yoga’s health benefits have been known to humankind for thousands of years. It improves flexibility, balance, and posture, builds muscle strength, increases your blood flow, boosts immunity, helps regulate blood pressure, helps you learn to focus, and helps you sleep better, just to name a few! 

The credit to honor this holy practice with a day goes to out Prime Minister Narendra Modi who suggested June 21 to be celebrated as the International Day of Yoga. PM Narendra Modi said, “the date is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and has special significance in many parts of the world.” After which, recognizing its universal appeal, on December 11th, 2014, the United Nations proclaimed June 21st as the International Day of Yoga. Now, it is celebrated annually on June 21st which people all around the world coming together and share their favorite Yoga exercises.

Many community members got together on the Casa de Campo polo field and followed through the different yoga routines and sequences prepared by the instructors, flowing from one pose to the other. The peace and tranquility that was felt in that afternoon with the sunset as a backdrop were like none other and the participants were able to connect with their surroundings and forget any or every stress-related episode they had encountered during the day. By the end of the event, we were able to see how relaxed and happy everyone was making this a very successful initiative taken by Casa de Campo and the yoga instructors that participated. We hope to see more events like this in the near future!
