Relaxing at the beach in Casa de Campo comes with a lot of perks, but not normally as good as this past weekend. Saturday, July 16th, Chef José Mendín of the Pubbelly Group along with friends, Chef Jeremy Ford of Matador Room and Chef Bradley Kilgore of Alter formed an unbelievable trio at the Flavors of the World Food event, serving up a Miami street-food feast on the sizzling sand of Minitas.
With an array of small dishes, the three chefs heated things up, grilling fish, steak, pork, and lots of yummy sides. When asked what we should try first, Jeremy Ford automatically suggested the Octopus with lemongrass, garlic chips and hazelnuts. No surprise there since the Season 13 Top Chef listed octopus as his pick for the “essence of Casa de Campo in a dish.” Just see our meet-and-greet interview here where we get to know the men who marked the spectacular Flavors of the World weekend.
Out-of-towners and locals also filled up on Black Angus Rib-Eye with Peruvian panka chile and green mango salad, Corn on the cob with miso butter and Cotija cheese (like you’ve never seen or tasted before!), and Smoked pulled Grouper with Alabama white BBQ sauce and cucumber red onion slaw. It happened that the Bao Bun with Tandoori Pork Belly and crispy quinoa was an all-around favorite, and even vegans got to join in on the fun with Fire grilled calcots and romesco. It was a cookout to beat all others and we wished every weekend was this good.
Cocktails flowed throughout the day and beach goers either cooled off in the crystal waters of the ocean or heated up in a game of volleyball! We loved seeing everyone from toddlers to grandparents enjoying the beach party. Even DR’s hottest celebs know Casa de Campo as the perfect weekend escape; we spotted none other than Jose Jhan, Nashla Bogaert, Dawilda Gonzalez and plenty more friends. In the past, Flavors of the World has journeyed us to Spain, showcased the best of Santo Domingo, and not long from now we’ll be escaping to Italy!
Stay tuned as we bring you more pictures of Flavors of the World dinner on Friday and brunch Sunday morning at Pubbelly Sushi in the Marina.
