DR Polo Challenge Silver Cup finals played last Saturday at Casa de Campo

Another exciting game of polo took place last Saturday, March 10th in Casa with the local team playing against Agualinda in the subsidiary finals and Lechuza going against a team that has been doing really well this season, Monterroso.

The polo season in the Dominican Republic is coming to an end. With three cups down, including the Silver Cup, and a wonderful affair sponsored by the BRITCHAM, this has definitely proved to be an awesome and exciting season! With the Silver Cup wrapping up Saturday, the last cup in this year’s DR Polo Challenge is the Gold Cup which begins on March 16th and runs through March 30th.

Starting with the Hector Vargas Cup back in February, in the Finals, team Lechuza took on team Monterroso in a fast-paced game ultimately ending with Monterroso winning 12-5. Not long after, the Venezuelan patron Victor Vargas and his team met once again with Monterroso in the Bronze Cup this time winning 9-6. Last month, Casa de Campo welcomed back the Concours D’Elegance for the second year in a row. This year, there were over 100 cars on display at the polo field pop-up exhibit with vehicles ranging in makes and models dating all the way back from 1919 up to the most recent.

The British Chamber of Commerce (BRITCHAM) hosted the sixth edition of the British Royal Polo Cup  in memory of the late renowned polo player and entrepreneur William J. Reid Baquero. The Ambassadors of the United Kingdom of Great Britain came, HM Chris Campbell and HM Sharon Campbell, as well as Mr. Reid Baquero’s family as guests of honor.

The 2018 DR Polo Challenge Silver Cup was an exciting one with the Casa de Campo Team winning against Agualinda with a score of 9 goals to 5 in the subsidiary finals played on court 2 here in Casa. The local team demonstrated they were a strong team, scoring early and taking the lead thanks to Dr. Leo Matos its captain. The final cup was won by the Lechuza team, their second cup of the season, with only 1 Goal of difference against their rival the Monterroso team.

The day closed, as usual, with a fun After-Polo party for all guests with live music by Johan Delgado and his band.

Next up in the Polo Challenge RD 2018 is the Gold Cup starting this Saturday, March 16th! Stay tuned!!
