Saturday, February 24th, Casa de Campo welcomed back the Concours D’Elegance for the second year in row. This year, there were over 100 cars on display at the polo field pop-up exhibit with vehicles ranging in makes and models dating all the way back from 1919 up to the most recent.
Arriving to the polo fields, there were cars forming multiple rows up and down the field. Walking through the exhibit was like walking through history, taking a trip back to the earliest models of luxury cars and following a timeline all the way up to the most recent. There were brands such as Ferrari, BMW, Mercedes Benz, Hudson, Cadillac, Ford, Chevrolet, Bentley, MG, Alfa Romeo, Rolls Royce, Porsche and Fiat. It was a colorful event, with live music, cocktail lounges, a food truck, polo matches, and even a petting zoo with pony rides for children!
The People’s Choice Award was given to the 1956 Ford Thunderbird property of Piero Giacosa and the panel of judges awarded the Best in Show to the Mercedes Benz 600 limousine from 1971 owned by Ramon Ernesto Morales.
Every car in the exhibit carries more than just monetary value, but also extreme emotional value. Some cars in the exhibit have never been driven and after purchase have always been “show” cars! Each vehicle was in pristine condition and many of the owners stayed by their prized possessions eager to share stories and answer and questions admirers had.
The event went all afternoon, and attracted members of the community of all ages! There may have been some scattered showers, but that certainly didn’t scare anyone away! The rain brought about a beautiful full rainbow arching over the polo fields making for an absolutely picture perfect afternoon!
