The Casa de Campo Polo Club is a luxurious setting and successfully hosted the celebration of the VI BRITCHAM Royal Polo Cup 2018. A sunny afternoon with an exquisite audience made this polo game the most exclusive event of the year.
The distinguished Ambassador of the United Kingdom, Honorable Chris Campbell, was in charge of the kick-off, which kicked off the game. The game was a really exciting one, in the end, Leo Matos, the captain of the Casa de Campo team, was awarded the most chivalrous player award. The brothers Santiago and Ignacio Toccalino, who are both currently in the British Open, made their presence felt in the last minutes of the game, turning the board around and making their team, Monterosso, the winners of the event with 12 to 11.
“This VI Royal Polo Cup is part of BRITCHAM’s efforts to combine cultural activities, in order to strengthen ties between the Dominican Republic and the United Kingdom, and promote economic and commercial exchange between both countries,” said Francesca Ortiz, executive director of BRITCHAM. Mrs. Ortiz thanked all the sponsors for their support and collaboration guaranteeing the success of this event, as well as all the people who came together on that beautiful afternoon.
“Until we ride together again.” was part of the touching speech of María Isabel Hernández de Reid and her children who paid homage to the entrepreneur, polo player, and founding member of the British Chamber of Commerce of the Dominican Republic, Mr. William J. Reid Baquero.
Funds were raised for the Abriendo Camino Foundation through the auction of works of art, luxury items, polo items and, in particular, “La Golondrina”, a mare donated by the Reid family for such a noble cause.
