Banco Popular XVIII Concert - Virgen de la Altagracia

As is tradition in this country, I want to first of all extend congratulations to all the women out there, that like myself, are named after our beautiful Virgen de la Altagracia! Yesterday, we mentioned that today is a holiday in honor of the Virgen de la Altagracia and to celebrate this day, Banco Popular sponsored its XVII concert in her name.

The Bishop of Higuey and Banco Popular Dominicano held on Friday, January 15 the eighteenth edition of their annual concert at the Basilica of Our Lady of La Altagracia. This musical gala featured performances by the National Symphonic Orchestra, conducted by Maestro Jose Antonio Molina, and the leading international violinist Zvezdana Radojkovi. This past December, we had the honor of enjoying first hand the National Symphonic Orchestra with Maestro Jose Antonio Molina in one of the many Christmas activities we celebrated here in Casa de Campo. We can imagine how wonderful it was to experience the incredible acoustics in the Basilica.

With this activity the bank seeks to honor the cultural identity of the Dominican people, preserving our deep Christian roots and promoting peace, harmony and faith through music. The concert also unites the first Marian followers with Virgin Mary devotion in America, and is one of the many events by the Bishop of Higuey, the Commission in charge of the renovation and maintenance of the Basilica and the Museum of La Altagracia.

The program included famous musical pieces by Richard Wagner, with his opera Tannhauser Overture WWV 70, French pianist and composer Erik Satie, with his Gymnopedies dances No.1 and No.2, and post-romantic Czech composer Antonin Dvorak, with his Symphony No. 7 in D minor Opus 70 and the interpretation of its four movements. And as featured artist from Yugoslavia, the violinist Zvezdana Radojkovic, praised by international critics for her skill and ability.
