Are you an Italian food lover but not quite adept at cooking it? Lisa Mayda, chef and owner of Restaurante da Lucas — which recently earned an 8.0 by the Accademia Italiana della Cucina, will be hosting weekly cooking classes for couples and friends!
The classes will be every Monday starting next week, Monday 12th from 7:00 – 10:00 p.m. Since Mondays can seem like a stresser easing back into the work week, this is your chance to blow off some steam in a fun way! Cooking is a great way to unwind…chopping, peeling, kneading — the mechanics of which let your mind focus on a new skill that’s not as difficult as you might think. If you really love to cook and are passionate, you’ll enjoy Lisa Mayda’s authentic recipes and style of cooking. Time and time again she has surprised us with excellent dishes and menus, such as the one she prepared for Mother’s Day.
There will be 6 classes in total, each one with a new menu where you’ll learn to prepare something new — pastas, pizzas, salads and desserts!

Cooking classes are great teamwork activities for couples and friends, or conversation-starters if you want to meet someone new. Surprise those around you with your newfound skills; all you need to bring to class is an apron and a knife. You can even spice things up in the kitchen and bring your own bottle of wine, or try one chosen by sommelier Sandro. Let’s be honest, cooking is way more fun with a glass of wine! During the sessions, you’ll both watch and participate hands-on. Afterwards, everyone has a chance to talk about what they learned throughout the activity and what was prepared.
You can sign up for all 6 classes or one at a time. If you go as a couple or with a friend, each class will cost only RD $1,500 or RD $9,000 for all six. For individuals, each class will be RD $1,000 and RD $6,000 for the whole bunch. This very affordable and entertaining way to learn to cook makes for awesome Monday night dinners too.

Ferragosto – the most important holiday of the year in Italy. Celebrated on August 15th, it’s a celebration of togetherness. Aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, grandparents and great-grandparents gather together for multi-generational parties, the most popular being lascampagnata (the picnic). The festivity, as with many Italian traditions, puts food at the forefront of the celebrations, and what better way to start celebrating Ferragosto than to share with you my experience enjoying an authentically Italian meal hosted recently by the Accademia Italiana della Cucina at Restaurante Da Lucas!
