Every morning we should be happy and look forward to another beautiful day that we are gifted. However, often work, stress, or simply a bad mood can make it hard to stay positive throughout the day, forget about making a healthy meal or exercising. We often skip breakfast because we don’t have time, and instead chug a cup of coffee on an empty stomach and later load up on lots of sugar, pasta, or bread, which ironically makes us feel even more drained.

We crave these foods and it’s normal because we have set ourselves up for it. After resting for 8 hours while we were sleeping, our bodies and minds need to be nourished when we break -the- fast. This is your most important meal of the day, so let’s make it a tasty one as well! What you eat is important, but the way to make you feel happier and more energized is by supporting yourself. It is ok to have a bad day, but it’s not ok when you set yourself up for that bad day…

Here are 3 simple steps to start your morning with more energy and positivity:

1. First thing in the morning, drink 1 cup of warm water with lemon juice or lime. This will literally help you cleanse your body and alkalize it. We aim to make our bodies more alkaline because this means more healthy cells regenerating. Did you know illnesses like cancer hate an alkaline body?

2. When you wake up I invite you not to reach for your phone and check your emails, news, or Facebook. That floods our minds with negativity right upon rising.

Instead, take a moment to think or even better write what you feel grateful for. I know it may sound silly to some of us, it definitely did to me at first. What are these hippies telling me?… Gratitude sounds almost like a cliché lately because everybody is saying it, but I have learned that this is a powerful instrument. With everything going on in the world, with all the tragedies and hate, it is very easy to feel grateful for what we have. We are gifted another day with so many new opportunities; we are alive!

It is proven that gratitude plays a major role in our happiness. So start with three things you feel grateful for. For me, today it’s being blessed with health, my family, and being offered this opportunity to write. Thank you Universe, thank you, God.

Feel free to write as much as you want. Actually, free writing in the morning is extremely beneficial for your health and stress levels. I advise my clients to write morning pages upon waking up. Anything that comes to mind and put on at least a full page or more. This won’t take any time away from your busy schedule and will take lots of stress away from your mind. All your subconscious thoughts arise and you can easily reassure yourself of whatever is taking peace away from you.

3. Enjoy a delicious plant-based breakfast, filled with fiber, protein, essential amino acids, and calcium.

This breakfast is so easy that you can actually make it the night before! So no excuses! You can find all the ingredients you need at the local food store (yes; both Jumbo and Nacional carry all of the following ingredients):

·   1.5 cups of unsweetened almond milk

·   5 tbsp. of chia seeds

·   1 tsp. of honey

·   fresh fruits for topping

·   1/4 cup of nuts – read the only ingredient must be nuts so no hydrogenated oil or any of that nasty stuff

In a bowl or mason jar add the almond milk, chia seeds, and honey. Stir for a couple of times all together until the chia seeds are completely soaked in almond milk. Cover and store in your fridge overnight.

The chia seeds will do all the work for you and turn into pudding. You’ll be enjoying the healthiest pudding of your life in the morning. If you feel the mixture is too thick add more almond milk. Top with fresh fruits, or some nuts. That was easy wasn’t it?

Wishing you a bright day!
