At the end of June this year, La Cantina in Altos de Chavon, Casa de Campo underwent a simple remodelling and launched a new menu, following which not only have we been loving the new and improved clean look – but also
the food.
By simply changing a few details in the decor – the chairs for example – and making it all a little whiter and brighter, the ambience feels much more relaxing, while at the same time more elegant and certainly very inviting. Having opened in December 2011, La Cantina has not only become a permanent feature of Altos de Chavón, but also one we’ve come to enjoy increasingly more in the last few months.
While not a new item on the menu, the Ceviche at La Cantina is delicious – so much so that everyone talks about it! So what is it that makes the Ceviche so good? Well to be honest I’m not really sure, it’s simple and exactly what it should be – fresh and tasty. And of course the reason all the ladies rave about it? It’s healthy! White fish, lime, peppers and lettuce, served witha handful of freshly
fried plantain chips. Yummy indeed!
So what else do we like on their menu? The Mofongo. Unbelievably La Cantina is one of the only restaurants in Casa de Campo that serves traditional Dominican dishes, so a visit for lunch or dinner is a must when you have visitors from overseas. Mofongo, fried and mashed plantain with pork rind, certainly does not fall into the healthy category, but it sure tastes good! And the offering at La Cantina gets a thumbs up from us!
