The Dominican Republic will be well-represented at the upcoming 2024 edition of the Latin American Amateur Championship (LAAC) in Panama this month.
Rhadamés Peña and Rodrigo Huerta will be the nation’s representatives at the event, set to unfold at the Santa María Golf Club in Panama from January 15 to 22.

Peña, a seasoned participant, has previously competed in this prestigious tournament in the 2016, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2022, and 2023 editions. This will mark Huerta’s debut in a field gathering of participants from 29 countries, totaling 108 players.
Enrique Valverde, president of Fedogolf, will lead the Dominican delegation, while Manuel Relancio, Head Golf Pro at Casa de Campo, will coach both players.
In preparation for the championship, Peña and Huerta are undergoing rigorous training sessions at Casa de Campo’s exceptional facilities, the Dominican duo’s sponsor, providing them with the uniforms they will sport during the tournament.
Casa de Campo has become an important partner of Fedogolf and its high-performance players. “We recognize Casa de Campo’s commendable efforts in supporting our high-performance players, offering their facilities for these young talents to train and practice,” stated Fedogolf in a press release.

The resort’s unwavering support and investment in the future of emerging young Dominican golfers has established the Teeth of the Dog golf course as the customary venue where the LAAC has returned periodically to host Latin America’s most significant amateur golf event in 2016, 2019 and 2022.
The LAAC champion will earn an exemption to participate in the 2024 Masters Tournament, and this year’s victory will also secure a spot in the 2024 U.S. Open and the 2024 Open Championship.
This upcoming representation at the LAAC not only underscores the Dominican Republic’s growing presence in international golf but also highlights the crucial role of partnerships in nurturing and showcasing emerging talent on the global stage.
