casa de campo poloDuring the 1st annual “Semana de Francia” celebrated in Casa de Campo from March 22nd through to March 25th 2012, the 1st “Claude Terrail” Polo Tournament was played between the Casa de Campo polo team and the guest polo team from the “Domaine du Barbossi” (vineyard and estate similar to Casa de Campo) in France.  The tournament, played on Friday and Saturday the 23rd and 24th of March was in in honor of the late Claude Terrail, who is not only an iconic figure in gastronomic French history, but was also a huge fan of Casa de Campo, who liked to play polo when he visited. When he wasn’t playing polo in Casa de Campo, Claude Terrail was the owner of the famous restaurant “La Tour D’Argent” in Paris from 1947 until his death in 2006, a restaurant which according to the restaurant’s own website was founded in 1952 by King Henry IV of France. The restaurant’s speciality dish (for which it is most famous) is the pressed duck (Canard à la presse). domain du barbossi And so on Saturday afternoon a large crowd of Casa de Campo polo enthusiasts gathered alongside the supporters of the Domaine du Barbossi team to watch the final match, which was eventually won by the Domain du Barbossi team – much to the delight of their fans who whopped with joy from the stands!

Following the victory of the Domaine de Barbossi team, a prize giving ceremony took place with Tarja Terrail, handing out the prizes, which of course included the fine wines of the Domaine de Barbossi.

Later that evening the Semana de Francia celebrations continued with the “Grand Gala of French Music” at the Altos de Chavón amphitheater, an elegant dinner hosted by Clara and Iskandar Safa prepared by the distinguished invited chefs from the Domaine de Barbossi and the “After Party” with DJ Stéphane Pompougnac.
