Having a few drinks sounds like a great idea until you wake up the next morning with a hangover.

When the alcohol breaks down in the body it produces acetaldehyde, a compound which happens to be more toxic on the body than alcohol itself. While women are usually known to handle pain better than men, women tend to have longer-lasting hangovers since they produce less of the enzyme that breaks down alcohol.

Honey contains antioxidant properties, which can neutralize the toxins created by drinking alcohol. Substances in the honey helps the body break down alcohol into harmless by-products and lessen the ill-effects of consuming too much alcohol. It might even help you avoid a hangover headache altogether. The sugar found in honey gives the body something else to metabolize and may help prevent sudden changes in blood sugar levels caused by alcohol consumption.

For the best effects you’ll want to use honey in a few different ways. First have a slice of toast or a few crackers with some honey before going out for drinks. Then, before heading to bed stir a few spoonfuls of honey into a glass of hot water and drink all of it before going to sleep. In the morning start your day with another piece of toast with some honey and make sure to avoid any alcohol for the rest of the day and drink plenty of water instead!
