Our  regular (ish) “Baby Steps” post  aims to provide Casa de Campo mothers with useful insights and natural remedies for dealing with the everyday challenges of being a mother! “Baby Steps” is being contributed by Jacqueline Silvestri Banks, who grew up in Casa de Campo, but is currently  living in Texas.

Little Red Knees by Jacqueline Silvestri Banks

Annabelle is on her way to crawling, woohoo! Though she’s not there yet she is scooting backwards and sideways. She spends a lot of time on her tummy because we all know the importance of tummy time and giving our babies enough time to explore moving around. Annabelle spends time on the floor, carpet, rubber mat and blankets for crawling and I put her favorite toys all around her to encourage her to move.

The more time she spends scooting around getting closer and closer to crawling the more her adorable little legs get scratched up. Imagine dragging your legs on the floor over and over again. I can’t imagine it’s a great feeling. So I got her little baby leg warmers to keep her little knees from hurting. I figure the less it hurts the more she’ll want to scoot and crawl around.

I got mine at target or if you’d like to spend more money and have a much larger, probably cuter, selection you need to get baby legs. There’s always a good reason to buy something for the adorable small person in your life!

UPDATE: Since “Little Red Knees” was written, Annabelle has since learnt to crawl! Congratulations Annabelle and Jacqueline – looks a lot like those socks worked their magic!

Where to buy ‘baby leg warmers’ in the Dominican Republic?
To be honest we don’t have the answer to this question, however, here are our suggestions:
• Rubiluna in the Marina Casa de Campo – they may not have any actual leg warmers, but they do have some other cute things for babies!
• Plaza Lama in La Romana – they have a big clothing selection, so maybe you’ll find some there?
• Santo Domingo – surely there are baby store in the Dominican Republic’s capital city?

How to make your own ‘baby leg warmers’
As actually finding ‘baby leg warmers’ in the Dominican Republic seems unlikely, here is how you could make your own:

  1. Take a pair of baby socks
  2. Cut the toes off
  3. Pull the socks up and over your baby’s little red knees!
