The 2019 Fundación MIR Family Weekend for Life event was a very memorable one – and most importantly, the result was a great time for all involved and an even better future for all the children educated at the Fundación MIR schools in La Romana! The dinner-dance at Minitas Beach was the finale of the annual Fundación MIR Family Weekend for Life, celebrated on Saturday the 17th of August 2019. Despite some untimely rain, the dinner, dance, and party took place at Minitas Beach where the glamorous guests were welcomed by the MIR students and then walked along a beautifully decorated pathway which started at the Family Pool and ended at the new Coco Mar Bar for cocktails.  The children always remind us of the importance of attending this philanthropic event. This is a wonderful opportunity for the community to see who is being benefitted by their contributions. Something we also suggest to do is giving the school a visit if you haven’t done so, that you can see first-hand everything that the children do and learn in the various facilities. Soon enough cocktail hour was over and the full house of guests made their way to the dinner seating, where we all indulged in a delicious buffet dinner catered by Casa de Campo Resort & Villas.  During dinner, both Lian Fanjul de Azqueta and Lyanne Azqueta took to the stage, and thanked their guests with such warmth and passion, that there could be no doubt that these ladies and the cause they represent is making a big difference in the lives of the more than 1500 students currently being educated at the MIR schools… not to mention the countless others who, having graduated, have gone on to live successful lives. This year the dinner dance party was hosted by Mistress of Ceremonies, Gabriella Reginato who welcomed MIR graduate Feliz Cruz Santana and the student choir who performed a beautiful song for the guests. It was also announced that thanks to the generosity of Mr. Richard Berstein, United States Ambassador Robin S. Bernstein’s husband, a third scholarship was granted to Reinaldo Bayona, one of the Fundación MIR graduates.  Soon after, winners of the golf and tennis tournaments were awarded their much-deserved trophies and gifts just before the dancing commenced. And as soon as the last bite of dinner (deliciously catered by Casa de Campo) was finished, the stage become a concert set with the appearance of Orquesta Dekadas. And as the first notes of merengue floated through the air, everybody flooded to the dance floor, the night ended with the tunes of DJ Eduardo Louder, when we were joined by even more friends and guests taking part in the “After-Party.” Congratulations to the Fundación MIR for once again organizing a wonderful event, which we are sure was very successful in helping sustain the three Fundación MIR schools and their future projects!
