Many of us rely on the advice of professionals to tell us how to take care of ourselves, but listening to all that good advice may be meaningless unless you’re willing to make a change. You are the only one that can make changes in your life that will impact your health and some changes make more effort than others. Here are 4 easy things you can do on a daily basis that can improve your health.
Focus on your breath
At the beginning or end of each day, take a few minutes to concentrate on your breath. Notice how your chest, belly, pelvis rise and fall with every inhale and exhale and even which nostril you are breathing from. Becoming aware of your breathing can help you in moments of stress. Sometimes something as simple as focusing on breath and consciously changing your breath pattern through your nostril can act as a powerful stress reliever.
Change positions
Sitting in the same position for too long can create pain and tension in the body. Holding on to tension can affect your body in many different ways. Try to keep your body as aligned as possible when sitting and if you spend a lot of time at a desk make sure to get up and walk or stretch every 30 minutes and then readjust yourself. When you’re standing make sure to keep your weight equally in both legs to keep yourself properly positioned.
Move more
Our sedentary lifestyles have an effect on our health and mental well-being. Instead of simply making an effort to exercise regularly focus on moving more throughout the day. Park the car a little farther away, take a bike ride instead of walking or take the stairs instead of the elevator. Every little bit counts when it comes to keeping yourself moving.
Cook more
Going out for a fabulous dinner is a great experience, but try not to make it a nightly event. Learning to cook gives you the power to nourish yourself and puts you in control of the quality of ingredients. Eating fewer packaged and processed foods and focusing on whole, natural foods can have a huge impact on your health.
