The Altos de Chavón Gallery will present from Wednesday August 14th until September 16th, the exhibition of the famous Dominican painter Oscar Abreu.

“This exhibition consists of a total of 20 works and it is very important for me since with this exhibition we are celebrating the 25th anniversary of the inauguration of the proposal that I baptized as Psycho-Expressionism, in which I propose my theory of the phenomenon of Personality and Reasoning of Identity. At the same time, I explore how spots and impulses of our childhood resurface and how we have been marked forever until we become who we are.

In addition, in this collection I express personal and experiential references, trying to awaken a state of social awareness in the spectator in this hectic era of globalization.” explained Abreu, who has made more than 35 individual exhibitions in different countries.

Oscar Abreu is one of the most highly valued and influential artists in the Dominican art scene. He is the founder of ARTFORO, an international fair which will be presented for the first time in the Dominican Republic later this year at the Palacio de Bellas Artes.

Architect Gamal Michelen points out: “We have repeatedly tried to define the psycho-expressionism of Oscar Abreu and present his work as a relief, a liberation from his internal universe. In that context, and contrasting with what makes painting an illusion, we now present, in an apparent paradox, that Abreu’s work contains a high dose of truth.”

Referring to Oscar Abreu, the director of Miami River Art Fair, Nina Torres, states that “Abreu is a true revolutionary of Latin American art” in the 2015 edition of Miami River Art Fair Abreu was the special guest, thus becoming the only Dominican painter to receive this distinction at an international fair.

During the International Book Fair 2018, the book “Oscar Abreu, memories of psycho-expressionism” by art critic Abil Peralta Agüero was presented, where the author narrates the life and work of this artist.
