On Sunday July 13th, the Central Romana Corporation’s “Fin de Zafra” Golf Invitational, hosted by the “Cajuiles Golf Club”, was played on Casa de Campo’s Dye Fore golf course, a gathering that saw more than 60 golfers get together for a beautiful and sunny morning on the greens.
The “Fin de Zafra” golf tournament is held every year to celebrate the successful close of Central Romana’s sugar production season and is sponsored by Central Romana and organized by the Cajuiles Golf Club, directed by Francisco Micheli, former president of the La Romana Baseball team “Los Toros”, who is also Central Romana’s Vice-President of Public Relations.

This year, participating in the tournament was Colonel Kalil Hache, Ramon A. Menendez, Executive Vice President of the Central Romana, Rafael Santana, Vice President of furfural at Central Romana, as well as Calixto García-Vélez, Casa de Campo’s manager for sports for The Sporting Life. Amongst the other players were executives of the Central Romana Corporation – the largest private employer in the Dominican Republic and also the the largest producer and exporter of sugar in the country – many of whom have been working for the company for more than 20 years.

The golf invitational was played in a “Best Ball in pairs” format, where the winners would be the three pairs with best net scores, this time Sully Martinez and Freddy Mazara took home the trophies with a 59 net stroke score. There were also special prizes for the Closest to the Pin, Longest Drive and The Most Accurate Drive (See the results below).

Following the tournament, a prize-giving lunch was celebrated at the Club Caza y Pesca in La Romana. So, congratulations to Sully Martínez and Freddy Mazara- winners of the 2014 “Fin de Zafra” golf tournament!
