On the 5th and 6th of July 2012, the 1st Bayahibe Mango Festival, organized by the La Romana – Bayahibe Hotel Association (AHRB), in coordination with the Dominican Tourism Consortium, the La Romana-Bayahibe Tourism Cluster and the “Mango Cluster”, with the support of USAID and the RedDom Foundation, was held in the various hotels and resorts located in the La Romana-Bayahibe area, with the attendance of hundreds of national and international visitors, who enjoyed a wonderful selection of more than 12 varieties of this delicious fruit!

Local resorts Viva Wyndham Dominicus Beach, Viva Wyndham Dominicus Palace, Be Live Canoa, Catalonia Gran Dominicus y Dreams La Romana, offered to local and foreign visitors, a delicious menu of salads, cold soups, sauces, dressings, crepes, desserts, cocktails and direct tastings of this excellent tropical fruit – created from a total of 5,000mangos of 12 varieties donated by PROMANGO.
During the event, participants competed for prizes awarded to the best and most creative stands, a contest evaluated by a jury composed by representatives of the event’s organisations and sponsoring agencies, which assessed their originality, decoration, dishes, menus and/or cocktails, as well as additional activities.

According to Ana Garcia, Executive Director of the AHRB, promoting the consumption of mango in vacation resorts across the Dominican Republic, primarily in the destination of La Romana-Bayahibe, not only enriches the dining experience of local and foreign tourists, it also strengthens the relationship between hotels and local food producers.

Although this first edition of the Bayahibe Mango Festival was aimed primarily at tourists staying in the different resorts and hotels, according to organizers, the second edition of the festival will be open to the public, in order to offer both tourists and locals the opportunity to taste the delicious fruit in new and creative ways!
