The tournament which will be played between the Casa de Campo polo team and the guest polo team from the “Domaine du Barbossi” (vineyard and estate similar to Casa de Campo) in France is being played in honor of the late Claude Terrail, who is not only an iconic figure in gastronomic French history, but was also a huge fan of Casa de Campo as well as playing polo in Casa de Campo.

Claude Terrail first started visiting Casa de Campo in the early 1980’s (the above photo was taken in 1983), which is about the time when Casa de Campo was first opened to the public as a vacation destination (previously it had only been used as a private vacation spot for executives of Gulf and Western). And so being amongst the first visitors to Casa de Campo, his name  is well remembered amongst the many Casa de Campo villa owners, who have had homes in the Casa de Campo resort for more than 20 years.

When he wasn’t playing polo in Casa de Campo, Claude Terrail was the owner of the famous restaurant “La Tour D’Argent” in Paris from 1947 until his death in 2006, a restaurant which according to the restaurant’s own website was founded in 1952 by King Henry IV of France. The restaurant’s speciality dish (for which it is most famous) is the pressed duck (Canard à la presse) and diners who order the duck are also served with a postcard with the bird’s serial number – now well over 1 million.
