With the new La Romana Bypass open and connected to the “Autovía del Coral” to Punta Cana, travel across the entire eastern region of the Dominican Republic has become much faster and safer. And to make the situation even better – we have just heard that the road to Bayahibe / Dominicus is going to be re-surfaced.

We have always loved both Bayahibe and Dominicus, beautiful oceanside destinations with quaint rustic restaurants and the most beautiful sunsets! However even after the “Autovía del Coral” made getting there much faster and easier, the journey has still been a little difficult due to the condition of the road. Which is why we are so thrilled to hear that of this imminent re-surfacing!

Works will start from next week and the entire “Boulevard de Bayahibe” stretching from the “Autovía del Coral” to the end of the road at the Cadaques hotel / resort will be completely resurfaced with asphalt. According to the engineers we can expect this work to take between 2 to 3 months.

While this work is being carried out please remember that travel to and from the Bayahibe / Dominicus area will be more difficult. Some access roads will be closed and heavy vehicles and other equipment may cause delays. Please allow extra time for your journey and drive with care.

This project is part of a strategy to further establish the La Romana – Bayahibe area as a tourist destination, and is being carried out by the Dominican Ministry of Tourism with Ceiztur.

Additional works will also include the re-doing of the streets in Bayahibe, as well as the construction of new sidewalks in the hotel areas.

Work is scheduled to start next week (January 13th, 2014), however it is possible that work may start early – this week – in the Dominicus area.
