At this ‘rainy’ time of year in the Dominican Republic and Casa de Campo – when it rains it pours! And one rainstorm recently was soo fierce that a mini ‘flash-flood’ swept through our beautiful Casa de Campo resort. (Ok, ok it wasn’t so much a ‘flash flood’, more a river of water that ran across the golf course and onto the road – but that doesn’t sound as dramatic or interesting does it?)
Minitas Beach, Casa de Campo La Romana When the rain began to fall we had just finished a delicious lunch at the Beach Club by Le Cirque on Minitas Beach (during lunch the weather had been sunny). But all of a sudden, clouds loomed over the sea and as we sat back to enjoy our coffees – the rain came down!
Lots of rain and wind on Minitas Beach, Casa de Campo To begin with, this storm didn’t seem to be anything out of the ordinary – but as the rain kept falling harder and harder, it was incredible to see the beach sitting under inches of water, with rivers running along the sand.
We escaped! Leaving Minitas Beach in Casa de Campo After waiting for half an hour, with the use of umbrellas and several towels we managed to escape from the restaurant and took a drive around Casa de Campo, on our way back to Altos de Chavón. Here you can see water covering the road near the Minitas Beach apartments.
It’s not a river – it’s Bahía Chavon (a road) The road through the ‘Bahía Chavón’ area of Casa de Campo was under so much water it looked like a river! What a shame we had left our canoe at home!
The La Romana Country Club Golf Course Driving along the road to Altos de Chavón, we passed this ‘lake’ which had formed on the golf course
A ‘river’ flows off of the La Romana Country Club Golf course Given it’s high elevation, the rain that fell on the golf course was quickly washed down – forming a river, that flowed across the golf course and over the road
