tropical storm isaac storm surge

After what felt like an eternity of anticipation (and worry), Tropical Storm Isaac finally arrived in the Dominican Republic and more specifically Casa de Campo on Friday the 24th of August 2012 – as a giant storm surge which pounded oceanside villas, the Marina Casa de Campo, Minitas beach and world famous golf course; the Teeth of the Dog.

Fortunately, life in Casa de Campo has now returned completely back to normal – a normal paradise that is. The sun is shining once more and most areas damaged by the monstrous storm surge have now been repaired and re-opened. The Teeth of the Dog golf course (as you can see from these photos) took a bit of a bashing and so although reparations are well underway it is not quiet ready to be fully re-opened – it should be open again soon, as soon as we know when we will let you know!

UPDATE (August 31st, 2012): All 18 holes of the Teeth of the Dog have now been re-opened.

And so in my role as “weather enthusiast” and amateur “storm chaser” – here I bring you my photos of the storm surge as it washed over the Teeth of the Dog!

The photos show the progression as the weather worsened and the storm surge grew wilder throughout the day.

After this last photo was taken it started to pour with rain and it got rather windy – so after that we hid inside until we woke up the next morning to find the Teeth of the Dog in a little bit of a mess – but don’t worry golfers, the Teeth of the Dog has now nearly fully repaired and will be re-opened very soon!!

The Teeth of the Dog – on the road to recovery!

Perhaps the area most effected by Tropical Storm Isaac was the Teeth of the Dog golf course. The day after the storm had passed (Saturday) the course was littered with debris of all shapes and sizes (rocks, rubbish and driftwood) and several greens, tee boxes and bunkers had been partially washed away. Incredibly and thanks to the hard work and efficiency of the Costasur maintenance team and the Casa de Campo golf department – the Teeth of the Dog is almost fully repaired and will be re-opened very soon.
