Last Friday and Saturday the 14th and 15th of February the Hogar del Niño – the most complete integrated educational center in the Dominican Republic – celebrated their 17th annual fundraising weekend, an event that was a great success thanks to the overwhelming love and support of the greater Casa de Campo community.
While the event officially began on Friday the 14th of February with a visit to the Hogar del Niño and the Homes and Gardens tour around some of the most impressive villas of the Casa de Campo resort, the first event to kick off the activity bright and very early on Saturday morning February 15th was the MTB bike ride!
In previous years, this fun event, organized by bike enthusiasts of the Casa de Campo community has been a race, but this year, in a bid to be more welcoming to everyone, it was morphed into a bike ride – something which everyone could enjoy at their own pace. The result was an overwhelming number of participants – it’s now clearer than ever that cycling in Casa de Campo is something the community loves TO DO!
Racing off from the La Romana Country Club at approximately 9am, the more than 100 cyclists weaved their way around the Casa de Campo resort, along 2 routes – a shorter one for children, and a longer one for everyone else. Yet no matter what route they took, everyone was treated to a “pit stop” at the Marina Casa de Campo, where in addition to enjoying the lovely view, they were served a refreshing ice tea by Susana Joa, the owner of Chinois.
Time for a break at the Marina Casa de Campo
With literally dozens of different cycling routes for all abilities and ages, in a very safe environment, the Casa de Campo resort is a fantastic place for cycling – and the sheer number of participants taking part in this year’s bike ride for the Hogar del Niño only goes to prove that. Next time you’re in Casa de Campo, or maybe even this weekend, why not give it a try? It’s certainly something we recommend adding to your TO DO list.
Congratulations and a big thank you to everyone who took part – organizing and riding – your contribution to the Hogar del Niño, will ensure the cause can keep growing, prospering, and most importantly creating a brighter future for the children of La Romana.
