Since I arrived in the Dominican Republic in 2008, my all time favorite party has been and very probably always will be – Palmillaso! Celebrated every year on December the 31st, the Palmillaso New Year’s Party at sea has become the most popular, opulent and unmissable event of the entire Casa de Campo calendar – and this year was no exception!
As has become our tradition, Philip Silvestri and I (Rebecca Hughes), representing everyone’s favorite website – Casa de Campo Living, Casa de Campo’s daily news and events website, hired a catamaran, filled it with friends and plenty of champagne and set sail for a day of partying at sea!
Our day got off to a bubbly start when the first batch of champagne corks popped as we hit the open water and bid farewell to the Marina Casa de Campo with the first toast of the New Year – to Russia, where, our beautiful Russian friends informed us, the clock has already struck midnight and so it was high time the party began!

When we arrived and dropped anchor into what was at that point a relatively tranquil pre-Palmillaso, Palmilla, we took a dip in the beautiful crystal clear water, recharged our batteries with a little picnic and posed for some more photos – awaiting for the party to begin!
After no time at all, the famous “Palmillaso” circle of boats started to form – at which point the race to get in on the action began – and despite not being at all thrilled with the concept, our captain sailed our catamaran on a loop of the party area in the hope of finding a good spot to dock. But alas despite a valiant attempt at tipping/bribing our noble captain to dock in the midst of the party – this year we sadly had to make do with being on the “outskirts” – of course by this point there was nothing that could melt our party buzz!
