Last Thursday March 24th, Marc Anthony, the Latin star who recently performed his Live! tour in Altos de Chavón, hosted a fundraising dinner along with his wife Shannon De Lima for the Niños de Cristo orphanage at SBG in Casa de Campo.
Marc’s non-profit organization, Maestro Cares has been working with Niños de Cristo for quite some time. In 2014, he inaugurated the orphanages’ current facilities with a ribbon cutting ceremony. Tremendously generous and always a role model to the children, Marc stated on Thursday that he is happy to “change lives and build dreams.”
The boys stayed with Marc throughout the evening and later passed from table to table showing off their drawings and paintings. These beautiful pieces of artwork were auctioned off in a silent auction along with one of Marc Anthony’s personal electric guitars, separate display cases with items by Juan Luis Guerra, Chayanne, and Marc Anthony which included a signed microphone.

Henry Cardenas of Maestro Cares and President Rafael Torres of Casa de Campo also addressed the attendees. Rafael Torres thanked those present for their attendance and expressed appreciation to have a star like Marc Anthony supporting the children of La Romana. The evening at SBG was enveloped by a wonderful family-oriented atmosphere. Many from the Dominican Republic came to support the benefit, including Ambassador James Brewster and his husband Bob J. Satawake.

Orfanato Niños de Cristo is an orphanage located in the Dominican Republic that was founded in 1993. It houses more than 160 children who have been abandoned and/or victims of abuse, both from the Dominican Republic and Haiti. Orfanato Niños de Cristo is dedicated to improving the lives of the children, focusing on education, health and housing, as most of the children spend their entire childhood and young life in the orphanage. The orphanage has two housing facilities, a privately-run school and recreational areas.
THE MAESTRO CARES FOUNDATION
The Maestro Cares Foundation (MCF) was founded by international pop superstar Marc Anthony and entrepreneur Henry Cárdenas in January 2012 as a non-profit organization established to benefit homeless and neglected children in developing Latin American countries. Maestro Cares seeks to offer assistance to these children while supporting social services and other development programs. Soon after it was founded, the Orfanato Niños de Cristo in La Romana was chosen as the first beneficiary of the cause.
“Maestro Cares improves the quality of life for orphaned children throughout Latin America. We work to achieve our mission by providing housing, classrooms, health clinics, dining and recreational facilities.” — Marc Anthony
