The Chamber of Commerce and Production of La Romana, the Tourism Clúster Romana-Bayahibe (CTRB), along with the Development Council of La Romana (Proactiva) and the La Romana City Council signed an institutional agreement to design and implement joint strategies to position La Romana as a major tourist destination.
The announcement was made by Ana B. García-Sotoca, Executive Director of La Romana Bayahibe Tourism Cluster, who explained that the agreement also seeks to build an inclusive, dignified, just and equitable city: “where the human being is the axis of action, the development and growth as pillars converge in the search for welfare and progress.”

Ana Garcia-Sotoca noted that each of the institutions pledged to join efforts to rescue and redirect the city of La Romana, bringing back its splendor, organization and beauty, and thus become the cleanest, safest and orderly city in the country. Also stating that the municipal council pledged to prioritize a truly participatory budget, where different topics are included which will in turn solve different aspects such as institutional transparency, public safety, transportation, waste, occupation of sidewalks and street vendors from the Central Park.
Several plans of action were established such as:
- La Romana: Productive, United and Competitive
Encourage entrepreneurship and the ability to generate wealth with productive work, creating an innovative partnership with organized, dynamic and competitive chains of production that meet current development models.
- La Romana: Integrated with the region and the world
Create value and project our city tourism potential from a holistic perspective involving economic, cultural, social and political processes.
- La Romana: Governable and Social
Strengthen the relations of solidarity, culture of coexistence and reach a clear understanding of the responsibilities of individuals and social groups.
- La Romana: Participative and Inclusive
Create conditions for all citizens, especially for those in a position of vulnerability, so that they can access public, educational and health services, in terms of quality and equity.
- La Romana: Friendly and Sustainable
Propose that the territory in public space and housing constitute a habitat that dignifies those who develop their life in it. This means addressing factors such as public safety, transportation conditions, build and recover green spaces and pedestrian areas, efficient and effective waste management, risk management and disaster vulnerability to climate change, reducing emissions of greenhouse gases (GHGs), sustainability of natural resources and factors that affect health and quality of life.

The agreement was signed on September 23rd at the Restaurante El Ingenio, where entrepreneurs, local authorities and leaders, served as witnesses of the alliance; and had the support of Orense Plaza, Restaurante el Ingenio, Mayol & Co, Cámara de comercio de la Romana, Clúster Turístico La Romana Bayahibe, Banco Popular, Ferretería Detallista and Eventos Grupo Solex.
