Kyra Montague, a long-time Casa de Campo resident, has just opened a holistic treatment centre called Ki-Ra, in La Romana. Being a bit of a health freak and big fan of all things pure and natural, I was delighted to be invited to Ki-Ra for a treatment and a tour.
As I arrived, I was very pleasantly surprised, the centre is in a large house in a residential area at the top of La Romana town, beautifully decorated throughout (largely in pink), with Indian wall hangings and furniture, which Ki-Ra brought herself from India. You instantly feel at ease, the centre radiates a homely and welcoming ambiance and as I was waiting for my treatment I felt very at home and comfortable.
The centre has obviously been designed to be more than just a spa or a clinic, rather it is a centre where people can feel free to relax before or after a treatment or class. It has several ‘communal’ areas such as a beautiful garden and patio area, with table and chairs and even an outdoor massage hut, an inside ‘waiting’ area which is more like a sitting room and a kitchen, where freshly squeezed fruit juice is prepared by the friendly and attentive workers. There are also several treatment rooms, a traditional ‘head-out’ sauna, a ‘European’ style sauna and an outdoor terrace for the yoga and Taekwondo classes.
The list of treatments on offer is seemingly endless from Abhyanga massage, a very reasonable 600 pesos, to other less well-known treatments such as Reiki, Lymphatic drainage and Reflexology massage – which I was lucky enough to experience myself and it was heavenly!
The point of the centre is not to merely treat clients to a relaxing massage but to help them reap the benefits of holistic health care and to start living a healthy lifestyle. To this end Kyra offers an ‘Initial Consultation’ in which she is able to talk with you about any problems you may have, medical or otherwise, to then recommend the best course of action for you. Remember holistic ‘medicine’ is not really about medicine at all, its treating ailments in a natural and therefore much healthier and affective way.
As is obvious from this article I am a huge fan of holistic health and believe in its wonderful healing powers 100%, to this end I plan to have an ‘Initial Consultation’ with Kyra and to follow that up with any treatment and/or lifestyle changes she may recommend and I will let you know how I get on!
For those of you unfamiliar with the term ‘holistic,’ here is the definition from wikipedia; “Holistic health is a philosophy of medical care that views physical and mental and spiritual aspects of life as closely interconnected and equally important approaches to treatment. While frequently associated with alternative medicine, it may also be used in medical practice as part of a broad view of patient care.” To find out more about holistic health, followthis link; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holistic_health
Kyra is keen to emphasise that everyone is welcome at Ki-Ra, her motivation to set up the centre is to help people to lead a healthy lifestyle by offering holistic health treatments and so she has priced treatments and classes so that they are within the reach of all budgets, and is even offering a 50% discount to those who really need it!
