“Walkabout Foundation is a non-profit organization that focuses on funding research to find a cure for paralysis and donating wheelchairs to people in need around the world. Help us realize the dream of those millions of individuals who hope to walk again one day soon by joining our cause today.”

semana de francia

The marathon or “caminata” will lead participants on a 5km route through Casa de Campo from Minitas Beach to Altos de Chavón. Whilst the aim of the activity is primarily to raise money for the Walkabout Foundation and to have a bit of fun on a Sunday morning – for those whose who love the thrill of the chase and the glory of winning – prizes will be awarded in 2 categories; male and female.

EVERYONE is welcome to take part! Participants are welcome to run, walk or even drive (on golf carts) the 5km route – so we expect to see everyone there joining in the fun! (Note: those on golf carts will not be eligible for prizes – sorry this isn’t a driving rally!)

The Walkabout Foundation

The Walkabout Foundation was founded by and is being run by Carolina Gonzalez-Bunster, whose family have had a villa in Casa de Campo for many years. Carolina founded the Walkabout Foundation, just over 3 years ago with the mission to educate thousands of people on the realities of spinal cord injuries, and make a real financial
contribution in the fight against paralysis, as well as to donate wheelchairs to people who need them all over the world.

Founded with her older brother Luis, who is paralyzed from the chest down, the Walkabout Foundation began with an 800 kilometer walk along the Camino de Santiago of Compostela, which, with the help of a special cross-country bike Luis traversed – becoming the first person in the history of Spain to cross the entire country using only the strength of his two arms.
