Following the breathtaking opening of the holiday season on the Plaza Chavón of Altos de Chavón last Friday evening the 13th of December, the magical holiday celebrations continued with “The Fall Dance” ballet at the Altos de Chavón amphitheater on Saturday evening.
In front of a gathered crowd of more than 1,000 Casa de Campo villa owners, residents, visitors and members of the greater La Romana community, the Dominican National Ballet showcased exactly why Dominican ballet talent is now being recognised throughout the Caribbean, Latin America and even the United States.
Sponsored by the Dominican Ministry of Culture and the directed by Marinella Sallent director and founder of the Dominican National Ballet and the Dominican School of Dance (ENDANZA), the show was surprising, seductive and enchanting.
Opening with “Palos Moon”, with choreography by Eva Martín and music by Gidel Martín, the audience were surprised by a contemporary piece which played out the conflict and love between a group of women dressed in white and a group of men dressed in black. With stamping, screaming and even shoe-throwing, it was evocative and mesmerising.
Other show highlights included “Agua Viva” with choreography by Annabelle Lopez Ochoa. This masterfully choreographed piece transformed the group of dancers into “Agua Viva” or in English “Living Water”, moving together as one, the group ebbed and flowed as the ocean, a river and a lake.
