Los Toros may have lost, but we loved the show!

Baseball Fever Begins! Last night, October 16th the opening ceremony of the Dominican Baseball Season 2014-2015 was celebrated at the Estadio Francisco A. Micheli in La Romana.

And what a great show it was! THANK YOU to the organizers and Los Toros for giving us a show worthy of the opening of the Dominican Republic’s most important sporting event!

From very early the crowd filled the Francisco A. Micheli stadium, excited to witness the opening ceremony which was conducted by the directors of the Dominican Baseball League, as well as the executives of Los Toros del Este and the Estrellas Orientales, with their madrinas (godmothers) Nahomy Gómez Alvarez and Winnifer Vizcaino.

Chiqui Haddad, a renowned Dominican choreographer and show producer, who is the producer of the show KANDELA presented at the Altos de Chavon amphitheater from December to April was in charge of organizing the grand show filled with vibrant colors, and energetic dance moves!

After a beautiful display of fireworks, Los Toros came out to the field and started strong! Los Toros took control of the game, but Las Estrellas came from behind on the scoreboard until they took the final control of the game in the last-inning, defeating the home team in the opening game of the season.

The tournament continues its course today, with Los Toros visiting Las Estrellas Orientales at the Tetelo Vargas Stadium in San Pedro de Macoris. The opening of this game will be a tribute to the Colonel Kalil Hache, villa owner in Casa de Campo, and historically one of the best Dominican polo players. Kalil will receive a plaque and perform the symbolic first pitch.

Other important games of the regular schedule are Leones and Tigres in Santo Domingo and Aguilas against Gigantes in San Francisco de Macoris.

A big THANK YOU to Ana Pereya who sent us the “behind the scenes” photos. Ana Pereya is in charge of the Department of Productions and Shows at the Altos de Chavón amphitheater, and she got to go behind the scenes last night because her grandson played a starring role in the opening ceremony!

How to get there: Leaving Casa take a left towards La Romana, drive straight through La Romana until you reach the big crossroads of the La Romana – San Pedro highway (see map below or click here to view in google maps) Turn right and the stadium will be on your left. If you do not know the area well it’s best to go in taxi or take a tour.
