Alongside its Chavón Summer workshops, the Altos de Chavón School of Design will also be having fine arts courses designed to develop student technique and creativity. These courses, which begin on Monday, July 30th will be taught by instructors who will travel from the New York Academy of Arts and will cover a variety of topics from advanced drawing, sculpture, drawing and composition and anatomical drawing.
The New York Academy of Art was founded in 1980 by a group of artists which included Andy Warhol, Stuart Pivar, Dennis Smith and Russell Wilkinson. It is a graduate school that combines intensive technical training in the fine arts with active critical discourse. They believe that rigorously trained artists are best able to realize their artistic vision. Academy students are taught traditional methods and techniques and encouraged to use these skills to make vital contemporary art. The Academy serves as a creative and intellectual center for all artists dedicated to highly skilled, conceptually aware figurative and representational art.
The courses are focused on providing instruction on specific skills and general content related to art and design. They are open to young high school students, university students, young professionals, hobbyists and people interested in art and design. The courses are intensive and will be one week long. Typically, classes run from 9 am to 12 pm, they break from 12 pm to 2 pm and begin once again from 2 pm to 5 pm. This is a typical schedule, sometimes there are changes depending on the course and instructor.
THERE’S STILL TIME TO ENROLL. We encourage you to give the school a call or visit to sign-up before the spots are all filled! The Altos de Chavón offices are located right above the Mercadito, where you’ll find more details about the workshops including who the professors will be. We guarantee it’s one of the best activities you can do this summer!
