Whether you are Dominican, have lived in the Dominican Republic a long time or are tourist – it’s pretty likely that your knowledge of Dominican folk dance is pretty limited… there are at least 10 different types of folkloric dances that you probably haven’t even heard of!
As part of the Festival de Primavera celebration of Dominican art, music and dance, YOU are cordially invited to discover and experience Dominican folk dance in an interactive workshop at the Altos de Chavón Regional Museum of Archeology on Thursday May 23rd at 5:00pm.
The workshop led by Prof. Xiomarita Perez, consultant and professor of Dominican folklore promises to share with participants samples of today’s different dances.
The folk dances to be explored include; congos, salandunga, palos, gaga, comarca, carabiné, mangulina, merengue, guloya and pripri.
What a wonderful opportunity to experience and celebrate Dominican culture!

Festival de Primavera: May 23rd – May 26th
The Festival de Primavera 2013 (Spring Festival) will be celebrated in Altos de Chavón from the 23rd to the 26th of May – a magical occasion bringing the best of Dominican music and art to Casa de Campo! Expect performances by the the National Symphonic Orchestra conducted by the Maestro José Antonio Molina, the Dominican Street Theater, the Quinteto Mirabal (string quintet), the National School of Dance (ENDANZA) and the Dominican Wind Orchestra!
