La Aldea Cultural Santa Rosa de Lima cordially invites you with much enthusiasm to the grand opening party of the “Escuela de Danzas y Música Folclórica Dominicana” (School of Dominican Folk Dance and Music) directed by Celeste Cruz, the teacher,  this Saturday, October 11th at 4:30 pm at the Aldea Cultural Santa Rosa de Lima.

This school is part of the “1ra Convocatoria de Proyectos Culturales del Ministerio de Cultura” (1st Call for Cultural Projects of the Ministry of Culture).  We celebrate this Day of Identity with this important event in the cultural development of La Romana.

The Aldea Cultural was inaugurated Wednesday July 30th, event in which the whole town of La Romana rejoiced to see “La Fortaleza” officially re-open as the Aldea Cultural Santa Rosa de Lima. Leading the ceremony was Dominican Minister of Culture, Jose Antonio Rodríguez, as well as Luisa María Ortíz, provincial director of La Romana for the Ministry of Culture, who actually began work on this project more than 10 years ago.

Also taking part in the ceremony was Amarilis Santana, Senator for La Romana and Jenny Polanco, Dominican Designer and advocate of culture for La Romana.

This ground-breaking project was born out of a vision, a dream that Danilo Medina, today President of the Dominican Republic, had 4 years ago. That dream was to create Aldeas Culturales (Cultural Villages), celebrations of what it is to be Dominican, places where the incredible Dominican people have the opportunity to share who they are; their unique and remarkable culture.
