Clínica de Familia, the nongovernmental and nonprofit organization providing healthcare services to vulnerable communities in La Romana and the eastern region, will host the exhibition “Fotovoz” TOMORROW AFTERNOON at 5:30 p.m. The presentation is the result of a research study conducted by Dr. Silvia Amesty, a family doctor at Columbia University in New York, with the purpose of highlighting participants’ feelings through photography.
The study documents, through photography and narratives, the experiences of a group of participants from the LGBT community of La Romana and their surroundings. Providing them with cameras, they capture their lifestyle experiences in general and that with the healthcare system. The methodology of photovoice is a technique of research to promote the empowerment of the community and give voice to their concerns.
The Clínical de Familia La Romana has for over 15 years sought to improve the living conditions of La Romana’s residents, providing services in medicine, gynecology, obstetrics, cardiology, diabetes, nutrition, family planning, laboratory, sonography and psychology. They also run one of the largest HIV clinics in the Dominican Republic and have achieved success in their Vertical Transmission Program and Family Gardens Program.
Come TOMORROW afternoon to support “Fotovoz” and the clinic’s continued compassionate work.
