Casa_de _Campo_Shooting_SugarLast Thursday April 24th, J.Pepe Fanjul joined by his lovely wife, Emilia, hosted a fabulous welcome cocktail and dinner to celebrate the start of the 27th annual Casa de Campo Sugar Shooting tournament.  Although the tournament had already started on the previous Tuesday April 22nd, the annual welcome cocktail and dinner is traditionally always celebrated on the Thursday evening of the 6 day event. Why? Because when J.Pepe Fanjul first founded the Casa de Campo Sugar Shooting Tournament 27 years ago, Casa de Campo’s shooting facilities were not as expansive as they are today. Back in 1987, although still impressive, the Casa de Campo shooting facilities had “just” the Sporting Clays circuit, two pigeon rings, and a skeet and trap facility, meaning the Sugar Shooting tournament was shot over just 4 days. 15 years later however, the new shooting facility at Rancho Peligro for European Style Driven Bird Shooting was opened, thus growing the tournament from a 4-day event to the 6-day event it is today.  Casa_de_Campo_Shooting_SugarHaving already enjoyed 3 days of world-class shooting, the more than 35 shooters from across the globe, all J.Pepe Fanjul’s personal friends, joined by their friends and family, gathered at La Piazzetta for an intimate cocktail and dinner in the beautiful artists village of Altos de Chavón. “We certainly did the right thing coming out here tonight, it’s so pretty”, commented Pepe much to the approval of his guests who reacted with comments of “fabulous”, “here, here” and “beautiful!” Once again taking part in the tournament was British Open Champion, Richard Brittan-Long from the UK; the Berry family from Texas, very impressive shots “they always amaze me how well they shoot” commented Pepe; as well as Pepe’s nephew, Andres Fanjul Jr. In fact earlier that same day, Andres Fanjul Jr had proven just how good of a shot he is, by breaking his uncles record on the Shooting Clay Round. “My nephew today shot a 98 in the Shooting Clays, 28 gauge, I had the record for a long time, but it’s been broken now. You deserve it, I’m really proud of you,” said J. Pepe Fanjul. The dinner at La Piazzetta in Altos de Chavón marked the closing of the European Style Driven Bird Shoot at Rancho Peligro, shot between Tuesday and Thursday, but following that, the 27th annual Casa de Campo Sugar Shooting Tournament continued at the Casa de Campo Shooting Center with the Live Pigeon Shoot, the Colombaire and the Sporting Clays. La Piazzetta Altos de Chavon The end of the 27th annual Casa de Campo Sugar Shooting Tournament was celebrated on Saturday evening, April 26th, at Casa Grande, when the winners of the individual tournaments were presented with trophies, whilst 2 further awards were given to the winner of the High Overall “GUBELMANN CUP”and the High Overall Cup.
