The day started bright and early with the children of the community polishing their tennis skills at the La Romana Country Club, where they received a visit from Mrs. Lian Fanjul. The adults headed off on the golf course in the afternoon where they were able to enjoy a day with more than 90 golfers participating. The dinner-dance party at Minitas Beach was the finale of the annual Fundación MIR Family Weekend for Life, and despite some rain earlier in the day, the evening went as planned on the beach under a beautiful night sky. Guests were welcomed along a beautiful candle-lit pathway which ended at the new Coco Mar Bar.
As in due Fundacion MIR style, a group of students from the schools greeted guests as they walked in, showing their appreciation for the support the Casa de Campo community gives them. The gala opened with a cocktail in the new bar area and offered attendees champagne, Chivas 18 cocktails, and Ron Atlantico rum, created by Aleco Azqueta, son of Lian Fanjul de Azqueta and Norberto Azqueta. Lorena encouraged everyone to try their luck with the Mystery boxes, which included surprises like flights to your next vacation!
The ceremony began with a video showing us the reason why we were all there, and Mrs. Lian Fanjul de Azqueta, her daughter Lyanne, and a group of students took the stage to thank everyone for their support in helping the Fundación MIR provide the youth of La Romana with education and the opportunity for a better life. They talked about the school and presented two students who had recently graduated which shared that the school is more than just a school; it has become a second family for them.
A student who had won the singing contest, La Voz, delighted everyone with a performance that evening. Winners of the golf and tennis tournaments were awarded their much-deserved trophies and gifts just before dinner and dancing commenced.
A delicious buffet dinner catered by Casa de Campo Resort & Villas and live music by la Orquesta Dekadas had everybody on their feet in no time enjoying all the pleasantries of the evening. Congratulations to the Fundación MIR for once again organizing a wonderful event, which we are sure was very successful in helping sustain the three Fundación MIR schools and their future projects!
