Summer is in full swing, which for me means mangoes season is here! Mangoes happen to be my very favorite fruit and you can find them everywhere around Casa de Campo. Besides the fact that they are absolutely delicious they happen to be extremely healthy. Here are 10 reasons you should make the most of mango season and eat one every day!

  1. They make a perfect snack to cure a sweet tooth. Who needs candy when you can have a fresh, sweet mangoes? You can even dehydrate mangoes in a food dehydrator if you need something with a little more of a candy texture.
  2. Mangoes are loaded with antioxidants, which have been found to protect the body against colon, breast, prostate cancer and leukemia.
  3. High levels of vitamin C and fiber help lower cholesterol levels.
  4. A fabulous source of potassium they make a great post-workout snack while also assisting the body in regulating fluid which helps control heart rate and blood pressure.
  5. Their high levels of tartaric, malic and citric acid can help alkalinize the body.
  6. Rich in vitamin A, the mango is a great competitor to the carrot when it comes to eye health. Just one cup of sliced mangoes gives you 25% of your daily intake of vitamin A.
  7. This fruits’ enzymes help break down protein which means it is the perfect dessert for a protein rich meal- like a barbecue, which is another summer favorite.
  8. To ward off the summer cold that tends to float around, just have some mangoes! Its high levels of vitamins A and C will help keep your immune system boosted.
  9. Rich in iron, mangoes are fantastic for warding off anemia. Especially fantastic for menopausal and pregnant women since it can increase both iron and calcium levels.
  10. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine mangoes have a cooling energy, which may help reduce the risk of kidney stone formation.
