The Dominican Republic, having spent the last week fretting and following the progress of Hurricane/Tropical Storm/Tropical Depression Tomas can today breathe a sigh of relief as TOMAS blows through the channel between Haiti and Cuba.
Friday 5th Nov. 10:30am – Hurricane Tomas is at this time over the southern most tip of Haiti and is forecast to progress northwards quickly reaching the north tip of Haiti within the next 6 hours (by 4pm this afternoon).
As you can see from the above cloud photo, although the system centre is over Haiti the clouds associated/part of Tomas stretch for more than 600 miles East – covering the entire of the Dominican Republic. Does this mean the DR is experiencing a hurricane? NO. Weather conditions in the Dominican Republic are currently rainy and windy and although weather conditions are not pleasant and may worsen, so that we MAY experience Tropical Storm force winds and heavy rains the full force of the hurricane (sadly) will be felt by Haiti.
Keep in mind that a hurricane is unpredictable, with TOMAS so close to the DR, there is potential for weather conditions to worsen – so stay up to date! Click here for the latest storm progress.
As I am currently in Santo Domingo, I can report that weather conditions here, although certainly not nice (no sunbathing for me today) – it is not too bad; very rainy, but fortunately not too windy – fingers crossed it won’t get too much worse!
How is Haiti?
